The PhD By Research
In some universities, especially the international ones, the PhD can also be obtained through a "by Research" and Distance Learning educational path. These study programs are very valuable for students who cannot, or do not want to attend a traditional campus since they require an original, independent and autonomous research in a specific area of academic knowledge by the enrolled student. The research culminates in a final thesis of at least 100/150 pages that will be evaluated by the academic board.
The achievement of the PhD by Research is based on the evaluation of the thesis content and structure. Usually, the academic board also evaluates the topic originality, layout, methodology, as well as the candidate's capacity to be independent in carrying out the research. Admission to the PhD program requires a Master's degree (MA or M. Sc) and a good academic and professional record.
The advantage of this study program is the "by Research" and Distance Learning features: it has a much lower cost than a "traditional" PhD spread over three or four years of study. In addition, it is carried out in complete freedom and autonomy with specialized supervisor’s support. Therefore, before choosing the option of attending a traditional program and committing to several years of study, our suggestion is to consider a "by Research" program that can give the student adequate gratification with less time invested and low cost.
